Tree Reports
Tree Management Plans
An approved Tree Management Plan (TMP), sometimes referred to as an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA), is mandatory under ACT Government requirements before development works that may impact a protected tree can commence.
Beyond meeting legal requirements, TMPs provide clear, practical instruction on how retained trees will be protected and managed during all stages of development works, as well as recommendations for their care once works are complete. This is done by describing all encroachments into the Tree Protection Zones (TPZ), followed by tailored methods of tree protection, taking into account the health of each tree.
At Absolute Tree Management, we write well designed TMPs aimed at ensuring all retained trees recover from the impact of the development works and continue to coexist harmoniously with the new infrastructure. All TMPs are written in alignment with Australian Standard (AS) 4970:2025 Protection of Trees on Development sites.
Preliminary Arboricultural Reports
A Preliminary Arboricultural Report (PAR) is the first step in project design as these reports provide a clear understanding of the trees on the site, including the Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) (or Notional Root Zone; NRZ) and Structural Root Zone (SRZ), two critical factors in design.
PARs typically include height, health, structure, comments, and identify regulation status, and can be tailored to the needs of the site and project requirements. A comprehensive and well-prepared PAR can save time and money by minimising costly redesigns throughout the design process. PARs can be tailored to the needs of the site and project and typically include height, health, structure, comments and regulation status. A comprehensive and well prepared PAR provides smooth integration of tree retention into infrastructure design and development processes, reducing delays and costs.
Tree Activity Applications
A Tree Activity Application (TAA) is an essential process for Canberra property owners wanting to prune, remove, or conduct groundworks within the tree protection zone of a protected tree. This is inclusive of regulated trees on private property. This process involves preparing and submitting required documentation to the ACT Government for approval to carry pruning, removals, or groundworks.
By engaging a consulting arborist, clients can be assured that their application demonstrates the work aligns with industry best practice and relevant Australian standards, and communicates the desired outcomes clearly. The result is peace of mind over a smooth application process. Approval is required from the ACT Government before conducting any prohibited works.
Dilapidation Reports
Our comprehensive dilapidation reports are an essential tool for mitigating potential liabilities and protecting client interests. By providing a detailed assessment of the condition of retained trees, exposed soil, grassed areas and uncompacted soil before development begins, this report offers a clear record of pre-existing damage and conditions. This documentation is essential for identifying any changes or issues that may arise during or after the project, thereby reducing the risk of disputes and claims.
By investing in a thorough dilapidation report, you safeguard your project against unforeseen liabilities, ensuring peace of mind and fostering a transparent, accountable approach to property management and development.
Compliance Reports
Our compliance reports, typically conducted every 3 or 6 months, provide a vital service for ensuring that tree protection measures are consistently implemented and effective on your development site. By conducting regular inspections, we offer ongoing verification that your site remains compliant with environmental regulations and best practices. This proactive approach not only helps to maintain the health and safety of the trees but also significantly reduces your liability. The documentation provided in these reports serves as evidence of adherence to protection measures, which can be crucial in mitigating potential disputes or claims. This report is aimed at safeguarding projects against compliance-related issues and demonstrating commitment to responsible development practices.
Pruning Plans
Pruning plans are a requirement by ACT Government for approval to prune public and registered trees. Following a tree inspection, we provide precise instructions on the pruning methods to be used and the intended outcome of the overall crown, while adhering to Australian Standard 4373:2007 Pruning of Amenity Trees. This service ensures that trees are pruned and maintained to a high standard.
Where temporary access is required, branch tying is a common short-term method used to created space for heavy vehicles and machinery, such as trucks and cranes, to access without the permanent damage of pruning. Following careful measuring, straps are installed within the tree to pull branches out of the way, within bending tolerance of the branches.
To streamline process and remove miscommunication, our team of fully qualified and experienced climbing arborists can conduct the required approved pruning or branch tying required for your site.
Tree Valuations
Trees are assets to society and carry a monetary value. Using specialized assessments, our arborists can provide an estimation of the value of your tree. This service is essential for insurance claims, development planning and bonds, and disputes.
